Glee 2.16-March 15, 2011

Hey everyone, welcome to my Glee thoughts and recaps blog. I realize that this is halfway through the second season, but I feel that I need to share my thoughts and feelings on Glee through an online outlet. Hence, this blog. I have been watching Glee since it's inception and have seen every episode multiple times. I won't be going back to do Thoughts and Recaps on past episodes, but will attempt to try to do one after each of the new episodes starting with Season 2 Episode 16 "Original Songs." Therefore, be prepared for the spoilers that follow, if you have yet to see the episode. Read at your own risk.

I have to say thus far, this episode has to be one of my top favorites, and I don't mean of the season I mean overall. As I recap, I'll tell you what I liked and perhaps not liked so much, and tell you why. Your opinions can differ, and you can express them in the comments below. :)

First off, the episode started off with the Warblers performing "Misery" by Maroon 5, which was an excellent performance and a great way to start off the episode. I can't recall anytime before now where Glee started the episode in song. Part of the performance I loved was Kurt's reactions to Blaine performing, which I will talk more about in a second, but also the Warblers have great moves and the part where they were using the table for effect was perfect. Now, we find out that Kurt wasn't overly enthusiastic about the performance because he doesn't feel it's fair that Blaine has all the solos, as much as I love Blaine's voice, I have to agree. I also am glad that Blaine acknowledges this and expresses to us, as the audience that the council decides who gets the solos. So, Blaine and the Pips is it Kurt?

Now Rachel trying to write another song, as it is much better than "My Headband", "Only Child" still isn't showing what Rachel can really do, which Finn expresses to Rachel telling her she's to scared to reach for those other emotions that her singing comes from. And then here comes Quinn, jealous of Rachel as always and her continuous need to get back on top by becoming Prom Queen, is getting old. In fact the whole back and forth between this love triangle is getting old. I think Finn just needs time to himself to really see things clearly instead of always having Rachel or Quinn there to distract him or get him to do what they want.

So, we now have Kurt doing scales with Pavarotti, who suddenly drops dead in his cage. This makes Kurt distraught and he walks into the midst of a Warbler argument on what time of tie and jacket they should wear for the competition. When Blaine asks, "Kurt, what's wrong?" Kurt announces that Pavarotti died and he believes it to be a stroke, and acknowledges that they should be practicing "do-oping behind Blaine" that he wishes to pay tribute to Pavarotti in song. Which begins the second song of the episode "Blackbird" by The Beatles. I loved this song and I feel it's probably one of Kurt's best performances to date. While Kurt is singing, we, as the audience, start getting a little eager when the camera starts panning in on Blaine during Kurt's performance. Well, I did anyways. It's a pivotal moment for Blaine, and realizing just what it is he's looking for. Personally, during this scene, I did an "air-slap" to Blaine, because we all knew what it took him 10 episodes to figure out, in Glee time that's about 3 months or so.

Continuing on, as always Sue is trying to destroy Mr. Schue and the Glee Club so now they can't use "Sing" by My Chemical Romance as their anthem and Quinn then agrees with Rachel to write their own music for regionals that is this weekend, mind you. It's just another ploy to try to win Finn over. While Santana on the other hand is still confused about Brittany, and Brittany's upset that they aren't hanging out anymore. Although, Santana has already confessed her love to Brittany in the previous episode, it seems that Santana is still not completely comfortable in her own skin about the whole situation, she already previously expressed she was afraid of the consequences, especially after what happened with Kurt. So we shall see how this pans out.

Now we are in the midst of another Warbler argument. They feel that Blaine's version of the song is better, others think it's not in his key. Blaine gets frustrated and says he's tired of the Warblers being about him. He then suggests making one of their numbers a duet at Regionals, this makes the Warblers start arguing again. They finally take a vote and all agree. However, Blaine doesn't want auditions, he decides to do a duet with Kurt. Now, the minute this happens the Warblers totally look at each other with the look of "it's about time," and when they vote on it, most hands shoot up like Hermione Granger would to answer a question. ;) And if you noticed Blaine then winks at Kurt. Now, I too was voting here at home and my hand went up as well, along with a few shrieks. Luckily, by this time my roommate wasn't home.

During New Directions first song writing class, Santana sings an offensive song about Sam called "Trouty Mouth," Sam gets upset, about it and then Puck begins singing his song to Lauren called, "Big Ass Heart" hoping it'll make up for him singing "Fat Bottomed Girls," to her during the "Silly Love Songs" episode. Of course, Mr. Schue doesn't feel that these songs are Regionals material, so they continue writing.

Alright, now we're up to the best part. In my opinion, the best part and the part I've watched a zillion times already. So, Blaine walks into the room, to find Kurt decorating Pavarotti's casket. Then tells Kurt they should practice their duet, when Kurt asks the song, Blaine replies, "Candles by Hey Monday" I had actually never heard of them or the song before this episode. This surprises Kurt and he then asks, "Why did you choose me to sing that song with?" Here's where I began getting super psyched and somehow without realizing inching my way towards the tv. Now this is the direct quote, Blaine responds, "Kurt, there's a moment when you say to yourself 'Oh, there you are, I've been looking for you forever. Watching you do Blackbird this week, that was a moment for me about you. *grabs Kurt's hand* You move me, Kurt. And this duet would just be an excuse to spend more time with you." Okay, like most fans during this I was totally shrieking, not loudly but doing excited hand gestures and such. At this point, I'm now two feet from my tv. And then Blaine leans in and KISSES KURT!!!! That's right KLAINE is official at LONG LAST!! Now, my shrieks got louder, I was jumping up and down, my heart was racing. I mean, come on we've been waiting for this for so long and it finally happened!! So, now the kiss is done, and Blaine's all flustered, "We should, we should practice." Then Kurt says, what for it! "I thought we were." And another KISS!! However, stupid piano and Mercedes' original song "Hell to the No" starts. And I'm like, "Hell to the No," you didn't just cut the most romantic kiss in history of television. I didn't really hear the song the first time I watched it because I was still hyperventilating about he Klaine kiss.

Now, I'm glad that they made us wait because it made Klaine a more real couple, more realistic, and more relatable. Typical Glee couples are kissing in the first episode they meet in or maybe the next one, a typical week and a half Glee time. And Kurt and Blaine took 10 episodes about 3-ish months Glee time and it made it a more romantic and simplistic relationship. The kiss was very romantic, it was forced, it didn't look staged, it looked honorable and worthy. It was both of their's first real kiss and they're both learning together because it is their first relationships, and there's so much they can learn from each other. I will cry if they ever break up, I mean all of this just for them to break up, brings me to tears to think about it. I look forward to more amazing, realistic moments like this.

Okay, Mercedes sings her original song, "Hell to the No," which is amazing but not right for Regionals. And then they discuss what makes them angry and after saying all the things that Sue has done to them they end up writing a song, "Loser Like Me." Quinn and Rachel finally have the "Finn talk" basically Quinn says that she's doing Rachel a favor so her talent is trapped here and her and Finn will have kids, she'll be a successful real estate agent, while Finn takes over Kurt's dads' tire store. Rachel then decides to write the song on her own and doesn't believe what Quinn says. She leaves in tears. Quinn is just selfish, I guess I realize she thinks she's doing what's best for people but she's doing what's best for her by trying to be on top again.

OFF TO REGIONALS.
Aural intensity preforms "Jesus is a Friend of Mine," which in all honesty wasn't that great. Plus, if you recall Sue's discussion during "Grilled Cheesus" schools aren't allowed to sing about Jesus or God, so not only was she going against rules, but also contradicting herself, which makes her a hypocrite. As you can tell, not really big on Sue because that's not how I see it.
Next up the Dalton Academy Warblers. *swoon* We first see Kurt and Blaine. Kurt asks, "If anyone's literally died on stage." And Blaine's like, "Are you nervous?" Of course, Kurt's reminds him he's never had a solo at competition before and so he's afraid of forgetting the words and stuff. Blaine then says, "I think it's adorable. I think you're adorable." I love this part because there are all of these people around and Blaine didn't lower his voice or whisper or any thing. He proudly said that he thought Kurt was adorable, not caring who could hear. Now, I mean it's not like he shouted it, but he didn't lower his voice or waiver which is what makes this part so great. Of course, their "Candles" duet was amazing. I know a lot of people will disagree, but I loved it and the emotion you could see ensuing between them. The Warblers in the background smiling, probably thinking "finally." Of course, they did Pink's "Raise Ur Glass," which was OUTSTANDING. I loved how New Directions jumped up during both songs and supported them full heartily. Then at the end, of the performance a Klaine hug. :D

New Directions performs Original Songs, "Get It Right" and "Loser Like Me" both amazing, and Finn realizing his feelings for Rachel he still has. Why wasn't "Loser Like Me" released when I was in high school? I like how the Warblers, Kurt in particular jumped up during the song. You can tell they've all become good friends and support each other. I actually don't think Blaine's duet song choice, was chosen to win the competition but just to sing about his true feelings for Kurt. Therefore, New Directions moves on to Nationals. Sue punches the announcer.

Back to more Klainey goodness. We see Blaine and Kurt buring Pavarotti, Kurt confesses he's upset they lost. But good old Blaine *swooning again* Says, "You did win. So, did I. We got each other out of all of this. I think that beats a lousy trophy don't you think." The walk away from a camera angled above this magnificent tree hand in hand. That Ryan Murphy, aka the Producer said took six weeks to find the perfect tree. And I'm glad it did.

Rachel wins MVP, a tradition Mr. Schue is starting after every competition. Rachel thanks them for believing in her. It's probably her best speech. It ends like most episodes end a Glee group hug.

Alright, that's my GleeCap and thoughts. I didn't share thoughts on every little detail, only those I felt important enough to talk about. I will hopefully do a new blog on the upcoming episode, "Night of Neglect" set to air on April 12th, 2011 here in the US.

Much love and best wishes to all Gleeks everywhere.
