Glee Thoughts and Youtube arguing?

So this is more of a Darren Criss related blog, but it relates to Glee in a huge way, but also how Glee has affected my life. Let us begin shall we? So, we have received a sneak peek of “Fashion’s Night Out” with the Glee Cast. This is the directors cut: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fRRUTHAVSI version over on youtube, not the one that premiered during the re-airing of Glee’s “Born This Way” episode on August 23.

Where this is headed are over to the comments in which a slight argumentative conversation has started, yes, I realize that arguing on youtube comments is really stupid, but I also have this incessive need to defend my opinions and those of others. I don’t know why I do it through youtube comments, but sometimes I can’t help myself, especially when some of the comments are ignorant and are just downgrading.

I will not list the user names of anyone, in order to protect their identities. One user commented that, “Seriously, Darren Criss is so much bigger than the show.” I agree, because even though he is representing a certain genre of people on the show, it’s also something he takes seriously off the show, because it’s something that he firmly believes in and supports wholeheartedly, and if he didn’t support it, he wouldn’t be able to represent it realistically and his performance as Blaine would fall flat, and it doesn’t. Blaine is a relate-able character and is represented by a talented individual who is throughly invested in his character, which if you’ve seen his interviews he has said many times and he has supported the LGBT community his whole life.

This comment is followed by a different user, who is replying to the comment above, “He would be nothing without the show....” Of course, I disagree, which leads to me commenting to this person’s comment saying this, “Um, no he would be something. He was already making something of himself before Glee. And I'm not referring to Starkid although, I did know who Darren was because of Starkid, which the first productions was posted in July '09, and that fall he was on a recurring character on “Eastwick”. But also released an EP on iTunes July '10, all of which was done before “Glee.” Yes, Glee may have made him more of a household name, but to say he'd be nothing without Glee is naive of you.”

Yes, I posted that, and there were several likes on that post a day later. However, it doesn’t stop there, this same person posted the next day this comment, “and how many eps did he sell BEFORE glee? how many people saw him in this other show? .... yeah
ALL of the glee cast are now somebody because of GLEE! even lea michele who was an broadway before.” Of course, I couldn’t let it go there I had to comment further, with two more comments, because there wasn’t even room for my comment. Resulting in the following two posts, “Darren was quite well-known by the Harry Potter community for "A Very Potter Musical" and "A Very Potter Sequel", and loads of people watched him on "Eastwick" because he was in it. In fact, that show wasn't promoted very well and I only knew about it because of his youtube video and twitter accounts. And lots of his fans began watching "Glee" when they found out he was going to premiere in episode 6 of Season 2. I have friends who did this.” And this, “Furthermore, they are "Glee" and they aren't somebodies because of Glee necessarily, but they have made "Glee" something, because it's something that everyone can relate to in some form, no matter the age of the audience. Being relate-able is what makes "Glee" not who's casted as those characters, but how those characters are portrayed. I think if they would have picked well-known actors (which they didn't want to do), the show would have less meaning.”

What more is there to say? That is the show the characters, not the actors. The actors make up part of it, but it’s the way they represent the characters, making them realistic and making them one of us. It doesn’t matter your age, race, gender, religion, sexuality, etc. to be a Glee fan and relate to the characters. I would like to think that Glee has helped me to be more accepting of everyone and be able to be more myself. It’s something that I would like to think I was able to do before Glee, but Glee gave me that final push, and it had nothing to with the actors, but the characters and how they relate to my life. It’s not just one character, I can relate to several of the characters and it has helped me re-evaluate myself and views, although I’ve been accepting of everyone for all my life, but when you’re not around certain groups of people and suddenly you’re in a world surrounded by different genres of people, you never quite no what to expect and being around those people for a while and then Glee happens, and seeing a wide aray of people being represented on Glee, has been so helpful and I view my friends in a different way and we’ve been able to have more serious conversations on topics that have always been touchy. So, it’s helped me reconnected on a more intellectual level and be more open with my views, and even if our views on these topics are different and vary, we are able to respect each others reasons for the way we think. Glee has done this for me, and it had nothing to do with the actors, but their portrayal of their characters.

Yes, arguing in youtube comments is lame, but for me it’s sort of personal, and to say somebody is someone because of Glee, their characters made them someone, because their characters are who we relate to.

Glee 2.22-May 24, 2011

Alrighty, it's been quite a while since my last Gleek post, which I meant to post after seeing the Finale of Season 2: New York.

I absolutely adored the episode, although my favorite part was the exchanges of "I love you" with Blaine and Kurt at the end of the episode. I also love the thought of Samcedes, but as Chord isn't returning to Season 3 I'm curious how this will pan out, and reasons they'll come up with for their breakup.

I like the idea of Finchel but I agreed with plan about how it was unprofessional, but the on and off again Finn and Quinn and Finn and Rachel, has become old news. This triangle needs stability and Finn needs to quit going back and forth between the two and deciding who he truly wants to be with. Blaine and Kurt are the only realistic couple at this point. And not to mention the adorableness factor to top it off.

I realize that this is television, but most teenagers can't write two songs, with lyrics, music, choreography in a few days, like they did. The songs were terrific but still, they should know week's in advance what songs they're singing for nationals or any competition.

I'm looking forward to Season 3 which premieres September 20th, 2011. I want Blaine to transfer to McKinley BUT I want it to be a legit transfer, not because he misses Kurt or Kurt talked him into it, but because of some reason we have yet to see. It needs to be a transfer that adds to Blaine's storyline, since we've been told we're going to get more backstory on Blaine this season. So, transferring because he misses Kurt or Kurt talking him into it, doesn't cut it for me, and after what we know of his father, I can't see that being the reason either.

Season 3 can't come fast enough!

Glee 2.21-May 17, 2011

Glee's episode this week was entitled, "Funeral." Jean, Sue's sister passes away and Sue becomes overcome with grief. And is even more hell-bent on destroying the Glee Club with the help of Terri.

Jesse comes aboard to help the Glee Club with setlist and preparations for Nationals by having auditions to be the star of the Glee Club and center all performances around that one individual.

Finn and Kurt offer their condolences to Sue and Sue wonders how come she's still standing and the sweetest person in the world isn't. Because of her sister's death she kicked Becky off the Cheerios. Sue tells the boys that she can't plan a funeral and she won't. Finn and Kurt offer the services of the Glee Club. Jesse shuts down the idea, while Finn tells him that since he's the leader of the Glee Club they will do this.

Finn and Kurt help clean out Sue's sister's room at the nursing home, discovering that Willy Wonka is her sister's favorite movie, they theme the funeral in that fashion and sing "Pure Imagination," Jean's favorite song while a video montage of her life plays. Before they sing Sue reads a lovely Eulogy that she can't finish and Mr. Schue comes up and finishes reading it for her. At the point, I'm bawling, my friend is also bawling. It was just so emotional and touching.

Sue thanks them. The funeral's over and Finn breaks up with Quinn. New Directions are doing original songs for Nationals, everyone hates Jesse. Sue wishes Mr. Schue good luck on Nationals after what the glee club did for her sister. Terri is moving to Miami to become Manager of the new Sheets and Things. Episode over.

It was really good, and I liked the Sue I saw and love how Kurt and Finn volunteered their services. Good for them!

Glee 2.20-May 10, 2011

This episode's entitled "Prom Queen" and is one of my favorites, tying in with "Original Song". Loads of Kurt and Blaine stuff makes for an awesome episode.

Here we go! Apparently, the band Figgins wants for Prom cancels and now New Directions have to preform at Prom. Mercedes doesn't have a date and is upset by this not, because she needs a man but because she wants to feel like Cinderella for one night. Rachel doesn't have a date so she has Mercedes join her on her "Prom on a Budget" and asks Sam to go to and they help him out because from last episode he's ubber poor. He agrees and says it would be an honor.

Kurt asks Blaine to Prom, in which Blaine has some issues. We finally get some backstory on Blaine's character and he tells Kurt that at his old school there was a Sadie Hawkins dance and he had just come out and he asked one of his friends, the only other openly gay student at his school to go to the dance. While they were waiting for the other guys' dad to pick them up 3 guys beat the living crap out of them. :(

Blaine tells Kurt he's crazy about him and agrees to go to prom with him.

Jesse St. James *bleh* returns and he joins Rachel, Mercedes and Sam to the Prom. Finn gets jealous. I don't like Jesse and didn't like to see his return. There's so much stuff that happens. Karofsky wins Prom King while with an over number of write-in votes for the first time Kurt wins Prom queen. He runs out and Blaine follows him, he does end up accepting it. But he realized that the bullying had been stopped, because they had all just been thinking it. Blaine and Kurt have helped each other out in different ways without the actually realizing it, which makes them the perfect couple and the most realistic. After he accepts, the King and Queen tradition is to have the first dance, Karofsky can't and walks off leaving Kurt alone, Blaine then comes out and asks to have this dance!! And they have their first dance while Mercedes and Santana sing Dancing Queen. They have pictures taken and it was epic!!

Quinn slaps Rachel blaming her for everything, Jesse and Finn get in a fight over Rachel while Blaine sings, "I'm not Going to Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You." *swoon*

Okay, so this is mostly about the awesomeness that is Kurt and Blaine. Sue me. :D

Glee 2.19-May 3, 2011

Sorry this is posted so late, I did watch it the night it aired, been super busy trying to pack. Anyways, I liked this episode although it may not be my favorite it was good.

This episode entitled "Rumours" is dedicated to Fleetwood Mac's album of the same name. Rumors fly about various members of the Glee club that Kurt's cheating on Blaine with Sam and that Quinn's cheating on Finn with Sam. Santana sings a beautiful song to Brittany, in which Brittany invites her to come on to her new web show "Fondue for Two." April is back in this episode to try get Mr. Schue to come to Broadway, by Sue and Terri's suggestion, in order to try to destroy the Glee Club.

Rachel sings a song indirectly to Finn which makes Quinn mad.

All these rumors and speculations, we find that Sam isn't cheating with anyone because his dad lost his job and they now have to live in a hotel. The Glee club chips in and buys Sam's guitar back. It was a great episode. I have really no criticism for it.

Glee 2.18-April 26, 2011

So, I loved this past week's episode of Glee. I would like to point out that the Super Bowl episode ran during an allotted hour slot and ended up 51 minutes, while this episode entitled Born this Way, was allotted a 90 minute slot and was only 57 minutes long (on iTunes you have to take off the 2 or so minutes of commercials at the end).

Alrighty, loads to talk about. This is the episode where Santana figures out the Karofsky is gay because she sees him checking out Sam's butt, and so she gets her evil little brain working because she wants Kurt to transfer back to McKinley because she thinks they'll have a better chance at Nationals. She confronts Karofsky and they start some anti-bully club called the "Bully Whips" to stop bullying to make the school safe for Kurt to come back. However, she spills her little secret to Karofsky and now they're "fake" dating to cover up they're gay. (everyone's disgusted by it me included) Making an excuse to reform Karofsky from his bullying habits.

Kurt does transfer back, but gets the truth out of Karofsky about what Santana's doing, which repulses and impresses Kurt. The Blaine comes to the school with the Warblers to sing goodbye to Kurt "Somewhere Only We Know" the second time I've cried during a glee episode and performance.

On the Rachel side of things, she's considering getting a nose job after Finn's clumsy dancing breaks her nose. She wants Quinn's nose, but Lauren who's now running for prom queen finds the truth about Quinn that her nose is actually a nose job and she use to look like Lauren. Kurt on the other hand with the help of Puck have a "Barbra-vention" at the mall and break out in a flash mob to Duck Sauce's "Barbra Streisand" song. It's EPIC!

By the end everyone's comfortable with themselves with the exception of Santana and Karofsky who sit in the audience while the rest of the Glee club performs "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga with shirts that have a word or phrase that describes a flaw about them that they're proud of. Kurt, Mercedes, and Tina take the leads on this. It was an Epically Amazing performances and close to being one of my favorite episodes, targeting how you should accept yourself for everything you are including the things you don't like about yourself.

I felt that the plot was amazing, (there should have been more Kurt and Blaine, but I guess that's just me) and the storyline is something that everyone can relate to. There's just no words to express my sentiments on how extraordinarily amazing this episode was.

See you next week for the "Rumours" episode!!

Glee 2.17-April 19, 2011

I realize this wasn't posted when I had planned on it, beings the episode was two weeks ago. I sincerely apologize.

This episode entitled "Night of Neglect," was an 'okay' episode. Not a lot happened so unlike the last blog this will not be detailed but a general overview. Nothing much happened in this episode except Lauren got Mercedes to go all diva, Sunshine reappears to perform at the New Directions benefit and then cancels. We are introduced to the "Legion of Doom" spearheaded by the one and only Sue Sylvester, consisting of Sandy Ryerson, Terri Schuester, and the coach of Vocal Adrenaline in order to destroy all chances of New Directions getting to Nationals.

Although, this seems like a lot, this episode was pretty mellow and not a lot went on. The best part for me was when Karofsky faced Blaine and Kurt in the hallway and Karofsky said an offensive thing (I won't repeat offensive terminology) and Blaine shoves him. Santana sees all this and steps in and goes all Santana over Karofsky. This is one of the few episodes I like Santana in and I was literally yelling "Go Santana." Now I tell people I have razors blades in my hair, not really, but seriously. Mercedes gets over her divaness with Rachel's help.

There was very little, and I mean LITTLE Kurt and Blaine scenes or interactions. Hopefully there will be more to come soon for them after us waiting so long for them to FINALLY get together. I guess we'll just have to see.

Glee 2.16-March 15, 2011

Hey everyone, welcome to my Glee thoughts and recaps blog. I realize that this is halfway through the second season, but I feel that I need to share my thoughts and feelings on Glee through an online outlet. Hence, this blog. I have been watching Glee since it's inception and have seen every episode multiple times. I won't be going back to do Thoughts and Recaps on past episodes, but will attempt to try to do one after each of the new episodes starting with Season 2 Episode 16 "Original Songs." Therefore, be prepared for the spoilers that follow, if you have yet to see the episode. Read at your own risk.

I have to say thus far, this episode has to be one of my top favorites, and I don't mean of the season I mean overall. As I recap, I'll tell you what I liked and perhaps not liked so much, and tell you why. Your opinions can differ, and you can express them in the comments below. :)

First off, the episode started off with the Warblers performing "Misery" by Maroon 5, which was an excellent performance and a great way to start off the episode. I can't recall anytime before now where Glee started the episode in song. Part of the performance I loved was Kurt's reactions to Blaine performing, which I will talk more about in a second, but also the Warblers have great moves and the part where they were using the table for effect was perfect. Now, we find out that Kurt wasn't overly enthusiastic about the performance because he doesn't feel it's fair that Blaine has all the solos, as much as I love Blaine's voice, I have to agree. I also am glad that Blaine acknowledges this and expresses to us, as the audience that the council decides who gets the solos. So, Blaine and the Pips is it Kurt?

Now Rachel trying to write another song, as it is much better than "My Headband", "Only Child" still isn't showing what Rachel can really do, which Finn expresses to Rachel telling her she's to scared to reach for those other emotions that her singing comes from. And then here comes Quinn, jealous of Rachel as always and her continuous need to get back on top by becoming Prom Queen, is getting old. In fact the whole back and forth between this love triangle is getting old. I think Finn just needs time to himself to really see things clearly instead of always having Rachel or Quinn there to distract him or get him to do what they want.

So, we now have Kurt doing scales with Pavarotti, who suddenly drops dead in his cage. This makes Kurt distraught and he walks into the midst of a Warbler argument on what time of tie and jacket they should wear for the competition. When Blaine asks, "Kurt, what's wrong?" Kurt announces that Pavarotti died and he believes it to be a stroke, and acknowledges that they should be practicing "do-oping behind Blaine" that he wishes to pay tribute to Pavarotti in song. Which begins the second song of the episode "Blackbird" by The Beatles. I loved this song and I feel it's probably one of Kurt's best performances to date. While Kurt is singing, we, as the audience, start getting a little eager when the camera starts panning in on Blaine during Kurt's performance. Well, I did anyways. It's a pivotal moment for Blaine, and realizing just what it is he's looking for. Personally, during this scene, I did an "air-slap" to Blaine, because we all knew what it took him 10 episodes to figure out, in Glee time that's about 3 months or so.

Continuing on, as always Sue is trying to destroy Mr. Schue and the Glee Club so now they can't use "Sing" by My Chemical Romance as their anthem and Quinn then agrees with Rachel to write their own music for regionals that is this weekend, mind you. It's just another ploy to try to win Finn over. While Santana on the other hand is still confused about Brittany, and Brittany's upset that they aren't hanging out anymore. Although, Santana has already confessed her love to Brittany in the previous episode, it seems that Santana is still not completely comfortable in her own skin about the whole situation, she already previously expressed she was afraid of the consequences, especially after what happened with Kurt. So we shall see how this pans out.

Now we are in the midst of another Warbler argument. They feel that Blaine's version of the song is better, others think it's not in his key. Blaine gets frustrated and says he's tired of the Warblers being about him. He then suggests making one of their numbers a duet at Regionals, this makes the Warblers start arguing again. They finally take a vote and all agree. However, Blaine doesn't want auditions, he decides to do a duet with Kurt. Now, the minute this happens the Warblers totally look at each other with the look of "it's about time," and when they vote on it, most hands shoot up like Hermione Granger would to answer a question. ;) And if you noticed Blaine then winks at Kurt. Now, I too was voting here at home and my hand went up as well, along with a few shrieks. Luckily, by this time my roommate wasn't home.

During New Directions first song writing class, Santana sings an offensive song about Sam called "Trouty Mouth," Sam gets upset, about it and then Puck begins singing his song to Lauren called, "Big Ass Heart" hoping it'll make up for him singing "Fat Bottomed Girls," to her during the "Silly Love Songs" episode. Of course, Mr. Schue doesn't feel that these songs are Regionals material, so they continue writing.

Alright, now we're up to the best part. In my opinion, the best part and the part I've watched a zillion times already. So, Blaine walks into the room, to find Kurt decorating Pavarotti's casket. Then tells Kurt they should practice their duet, when Kurt asks the song, Blaine replies, "Candles by Hey Monday" I had actually never heard of them or the song before this episode. This surprises Kurt and he then asks, "Why did you choose me to sing that song with?" Here's where I began getting super psyched and somehow without realizing inching my way towards the tv. Now this is the direct quote, Blaine responds, "Kurt, there's a moment when you say to yourself 'Oh, there you are, I've been looking for you forever. Watching you do Blackbird this week, that was a moment for me about you. *grabs Kurt's hand* You move me, Kurt. And this duet would just be an excuse to spend more time with you." Okay, like most fans during this I was totally shrieking, not loudly but doing excited hand gestures and such. At this point, I'm now two feet from my tv. And then Blaine leans in and KISSES KURT!!!! That's right KLAINE is official at LONG LAST!! Now, my shrieks got louder, I was jumping up and down, my heart was racing. I mean, come on we've been waiting for this for so long and it finally happened!! So, now the kiss is done, and Blaine's all flustered, "We should, we should practice." Then Kurt says, what for it! "I thought we were." And another KISS!! However, stupid piano and Mercedes' original song "Hell to the No" starts. And I'm like, "Hell to the No," you didn't just cut the most romantic kiss in history of television. I didn't really hear the song the first time I watched it because I was still hyperventilating about he Klaine kiss.

Now, I'm glad that they made us wait because it made Klaine a more real couple, more realistic, and more relatable. Typical Glee couples are kissing in the first episode they meet in or maybe the next one, a typical week and a half Glee time. And Kurt and Blaine took 10 episodes about 3-ish months Glee time and it made it a more romantic and simplistic relationship. The kiss was very romantic, it was forced, it didn't look staged, it looked honorable and worthy. It was both of their's first real kiss and they're both learning together because it is their first relationships, and there's so much they can learn from each other. I will cry if they ever break up, I mean all of this just for them to break up, brings me to tears to think about it. I look forward to more amazing, realistic moments like this.

Okay, Mercedes sings her original song, "Hell to the No," which is amazing but not right for Regionals. And then they discuss what makes them angry and after saying all the things that Sue has done to them they end up writing a song, "Loser Like Me." Quinn and Rachel finally have the "Finn talk" basically Quinn says that she's doing Rachel a favor so her talent is trapped here and her and Finn will have kids, she'll be a successful real estate agent, while Finn takes over Kurt's dads' tire store. Rachel then decides to write the song on her own and doesn't believe what Quinn says. She leaves in tears. Quinn is just selfish, I guess I realize she thinks she's doing what's best for people but she's doing what's best for her by trying to be on top again.

OFF TO REGIONALS.
Aural intensity preforms "Jesus is a Friend of Mine," which in all honesty wasn't that great. Plus, if you recall Sue's discussion during "Grilled Cheesus" schools aren't allowed to sing about Jesus or God, so not only was she going against rules, but also contradicting herself, which makes her a hypocrite. As you can tell, not really big on Sue because that's not how I see it.
Next up the Dalton Academy Warblers. *swoon* We first see Kurt and Blaine. Kurt asks, "If anyone's literally died on stage." And Blaine's like, "Are you nervous?" Of course, Kurt's reminds him he's never had a solo at competition before and so he's afraid of forgetting the words and stuff. Blaine then says, "I think it's adorable. I think you're adorable." I love this part because there are all of these people around and Blaine didn't lower his voice or whisper or any thing. He proudly said that he thought Kurt was adorable, not caring who could hear. Now, I mean it's not like he shouted it, but he didn't lower his voice or waiver which is what makes this part so great. Of course, their "Candles" duet was amazing. I know a lot of people will disagree, but I loved it and the emotion you could see ensuing between them. The Warblers in the background smiling, probably thinking "finally." Of course, they did Pink's "Raise Ur Glass," which was OUTSTANDING. I loved how New Directions jumped up during both songs and supported them full heartily. Then at the end, of the performance a Klaine hug. :D

New Directions performs Original Songs, "Get It Right" and "Loser Like Me" both amazing, and Finn realizing his feelings for Rachel he still has. Why wasn't "Loser Like Me" released when I was in high school? I like how the Warblers, Kurt in particular jumped up during the song. You can tell they've all become good friends and support each other. I actually don't think Blaine's duet song choice, was chosen to win the competition but just to sing about his true feelings for Kurt. Therefore, New Directions moves on to Nationals. Sue punches the announcer.

Back to more Klainey goodness. We see Blaine and Kurt buring Pavarotti, Kurt confesses he's upset they lost. But good old Blaine *swooning again* Says, "You did win. So, did I. We got each other out of all of this. I think that beats a lousy trophy don't you think." The walk away from a camera angled above this magnificent tree hand in hand. That Ryan Murphy, aka the Producer said took six weeks to find the perfect tree. And I'm glad it did.

Rachel wins MVP, a tradition Mr. Schue is starting after every competition. Rachel thanks them for believing in her. It's probably her best speech. It ends like most episodes end a Glee group hug.
-----

Alright, that's my GleeCap and thoughts. I didn't share thoughts on every little detail, only those I felt important enough to talk about. I will hopefully do a new blog on the upcoming episode, "Night of Neglect" set to air on April 12th, 2011 here in the US.

Much love and best wishes to all Gleeks everywhere.
